Australian Stallions / Sires

Filed under: horse breeding — kingtockers @ 10:10 PM

Currently the Australian breeding industry is represented by the 3 most well known and highly credentialled stud farms being Coolmore; Arrowfield and Darley Australia.

A number of other stud farms also exist headed by Vinery Stud; Widden Stud and the well publicised Patinack Farm.

Due to recent economic events stallion prices have come off around 30% in the past year.

The most famous and best performed stallions in order in Australia are undoubtedly 1. Redoutes Choice which stands at  Arrowfield for $198,000 and 2 Encosta De Lago that stands at Coolmore for $220,000.

Other stallion fees progress down from this scale and as always is dictated by perceived quality.

Popular stallions offered by Coolmore include Haradasun; Duke of Marmalade; Henry the Navigator and Dylan Thomas.

Darley have recently announced they will be standing the well performed stallion Street Cry again next year for around 110k after its international absence.

For mine I am anticipating that Elvstroem will end up being 1 of the real bargain sires. He currently stands for $27,500. Other bargain basement sires to which I think you would be getting value for money include Not a Single Doubt and Lucky Owners
